This was a group project in collaboration with product design students and the Fjord Accenture team. Our aim was to make visible to our users a form of their personal data; a breakdown of their electricity consumption, while enabling them to save money. We created an app that will link with the users’ ESB account. The users’ electricity bill will have a QR code, which when scanned on the app, will show them a break down of their electricity usage and give them suggestions on how to save money by using appliances, such as the dishwasher or washing machine, at off-peak times, i.e. from 11pm-8am. The savings the user makes will be stored in a piggybank on the app, which will build up over time and can instantly be transferred to their bank account. In order to be able to track how much energy each appliance is using, the user will receive a starter kit containing a set of smart plugs that will monitor the energy consumption.
